The 6 Different Types of Hearing Aids
1. Behind-the-Ear (BTE) – A BTE hearing aids sits behind the ear and has a small tube that runs from the device into the ear canal; this type of device is suitable for a wide range of hearing losses, from mild to severe.
2. In-the-Ear (ITE) – An ITE hearing aid fits entirely inside your ear and is ideal for those with mild to moderate hearing loss; it may also be a better choice if you want something more discreet.
3. In-the-Canal (ITC)– This type of device fits partially in the ear canal, making it a great option if you want something that’s barely noticeable while still providing adequate amplification.
4. Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)– The RIC style of hearing aid is similar to an ITC but features a thin wire running from the device down into the ear canal; this helps make sound clearer by positioning the speaker closer to the eardrum.
5 .Completely-in-Canal (CIC)– A CIC is slightly larger than an ITE but fits fully within your ear canal, giving it an even more discreet appearance; however, it’s not suitable for everyone as some people will have too severe of a hearing loss for this model to be effective.
6. Open Fit – This style of hearing aid uses a tiny speaker that sits outside your ear instead of blocking up the entire opening; this allows low frequency sounds to pass through naturally while high frequency sounds are amplified for optimal clarity and comfort.
